Richard M. McGee, 90, of Rockford, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017. He was born in Rockford on February 12, 1927 to parents, Michael Joseph and Louise Francis (Adams) McGee. Richard proudly served his country on the USS Hornet during WWII in the United States Navy. He went on to marry his loving wife, Betty Jean (Thompson) McGee, on May 24, 1952, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rockford. Richard worked for the Rockford School Board, retiring in 1994. Richard was an avid and talented wood worker, he also loved fishing, and walks along the bikepath. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. The McGee Family would like to thank the staff of the OSF Cardiac Unit for their compassionate care and kindness.
Richard is survived by his sons, Justin (Barb) McGee, Mike (Cindy) McGee, Jeff (Sue) McGee, Mark McGee, David McGee, and Chris (Rebecca) McGee; grandchildren, Sean, Melissa, Eden, Elina, Eliam, and Kyle.
He is predeceased by his wife, Betty Jean in August 8, 1983, his parents; and his brothers, Justin McGee, and Clarence L. McGee.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL, 61108; with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Saturday. Burial and Military Honors will follow to Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
