Richard J. Tassoni

Richard John Tassoni, age 90, of Rockford, IL passed away at home on Wednesday, February 16, 2022.

Richard was born in Rockford on January 4, 1932, the son of Angelo and Blanche (Gasbarra) Tassoni. He graduated from West High School, Class of 1951. Richard began working in construction and later transitioned to building inspector with the city of Rockford from 1968 – 1992. He lived on Cunningham Street and attended St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church during his youth. Richard married Merry L. Jennings on October 28, 1983. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, watercolor painting and playing bocce ball. Richard was also a bartender at Maria’s on the weekends for 20 years. He enjoyed the company of his great neighbors, traveling throughout the world and most of all, spending time with family and friends. Richard will be dearly missed.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Merry Tassoni; children, Debbi (John) Alis of Raleigh, NC, Richard (Denise) Tassoni of Rockford; sister, Beatrice Iwig of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Nick (Katie) Alis of Holly Springs, NC, Ashley (Chris) Sperry of Camden, SC, Luke (Nicole) Tassoni of Rockford and Jordan Tassoni of Tampa, FL; great-grandchildren, Lily Sperry, Leo and Malia Tassoni; sister-in-law, Joanne (Bruce) Johnson; brother in law, Fritz Keeler and numerous nieces and nephews. Richard is predeceased by his parents; siblings, Anne (Benny) Coneglio, John (Dorothy) Tassoni, Mary (Bob) Miller, Augie Burke Alis (John); sister in law, Barbara Keeler; brother in law, Dale Iwig and mother in law, Lorena Jennings.

A memorial visitation will be held from 10:30 am. – 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2022 followed by a memorial service from 12:00 – 12:30 p.m. located at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL 61108. Final resting place will be in Scandinavian Cemetery, Rockford, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Carpenter’s Place or the Salvation Army.
