Richard J. “Dick” Cazel, 82, of Rockford passed away at UW Madison Hospital on Sunday, November 9, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Born November 18, 1931, in Freeport, the son of Clarence and Iola (Bouray) Cazel. Dick graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1949. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. Dick married Mary C. “Cathy” Burnell on June 29, 1957 in Newton, Illinois. He worked as a supervisor for Camcar for 43 years. Dick was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. He was also very active with the Korean War Veteran Association, American Legion, the YMCA Retired Men’s Club and the Camcar Retiree Club.
Survived by his wife, Cathy; children, Cynthia (Robert) Erlandson, Kristi (Michael) Quigley and Michael (Lori) Cazel; grandchildren, Travis, Jessica and Cody Cazel; sisters, Patsy (Ronald) Peters and Sandra Elliott; brother, Terry (Judy) Cazel and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, brother, Donald, sisters, Karen Cazel and Betty Bartelt.
Funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 14, 2014 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2400 Bell Ave. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 North Rockton Ave., with the rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Entombment in Calvary Catholic Mausoleum.
