Richard J. Archer, 85, lifelong resident of Rockford passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2013. Born February 9, 1928; the son of Ernest and Alice Archer. Richard married LaVon Nyght on November 30, 1946. Richard and LaVon owned a television repair business for 40 years. He was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan and watched his last game the night before he died. Richard loved to fish and spent many hours fishing on the Rock River with his son. He also loved to play cards and played with the same group of guys for 50 years. He was a long time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Richard was an intelligent and loving man who treasured his family and kept his sense of humor to the very end. We will miss him everyday. The Archer Family would like to give a special thank you to Davita Dialysis, Roxbury, for years of great care and friendship.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his one and only, wife, LaVon; son, Stephen (Margaret) Archer; daughter, Sandra (Jon Bates) Rich; grandchildren, Angela Winters, Diane (Geno) Winters, Michael (Katie) Rich and Jacqueline (Jeremy) Fallis; great-grandchildren, Danielle Bowen, Carlie Hoffman, Laura Hoffman, Dominic Archer, Nicholas Rich, Wyatt Fallis, Jackson Rich and Sophia Fallis. Predeceased by his parents and brother, Charles.
Private family service to be held. Memorials may be made to the family to be donated to the American Diabetes Association, Chicago Office, 30 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 2015, Chicago, Illinois, 60602. Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, assisted the family.
