RICHARD CLAUDE BUSINGA, MM
Richard Claude "Dick" Businga, 87, Rockford, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2014, in his home. He was born March 18, 1927, in Rockford, the son of Russell and Eunice (Lizer) Businga. Dick was a 1945 graduate of Rockford West High School. He served in the Army during World War II. Dick married Leona Ruff on January 15, 1961, in Sheridan, Wyoming. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 38 years, retiring in 1982. Dick then worked at Bergner's Distribution Center until 2009, when he decided "that was enough". He was a life member of Grace United Methodist Church where he served as an usher for many years and was a member of the United Methodist Men's Group. Dick was a Master Mason and belonged to Lodge #166, Star in the East for over 50 years. He was active with the Boy Scouts of America for many years, was a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow and served as the Scoutmaster of Winnebago Troop 705 for five years. Dick enjoyed his walks with his dog Pepper and taking care of the plants and flowers in his yard. He was a 13 gallon donor at the Rock River Valley Blood Center.
Survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Leona; his children, Karen (Joe) Lyczak of Knoxville, MD, Nancy Businga of Cambridge, WI, and Tom Businga of North Liberty, IA; his sister, Pauline Remer of Winnebago; his niece, Janice (Brian) Collins and his nephew, Scott Remer. Predeceased by his parents and his brother-in-law, Roger Remer.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 6, 2014, at Grace United Methodist Church, 3555 McFarland Rd with Reverend Pamela Rossmiller officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the church. A luncheon will be served immediately following the service. Private family burial at a later date. Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory assisted the family.
