Raymond “Ray” E. Zegunis, 74, of Loves Park, IL passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022. He was born February 25, 1947 in Rockford, IL the son of Anthony and Ida (Wilkins) Zegunis. Ray proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He went on to work as a truck driver for Dierk’s Foodservice, Northern Illinois Food Pantry, Liebovich Bros Inc. and finally for Napa Auto. Ray was a hard worker, never missing a day of work. He enjoyed fishing for walleye, camping, gambling and bowling. He earned the nickname “Bomber” for his unique style of bowling. Ray also played baseball in his younger years. Most of all, Ray loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. Ray will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
Ray is survived by his children, Renee (George Williams) Zegunis and Scott (Lori) Zegunis; grandchildren, Alexandria (Kyle) Fitzpatrick, Desiray Zegunis and Devin Zegunis; great grandson, Mateo Zegunis; brother, Anthony “Duke” (Cheryl) Zegunis and James “Jimmy” Zegunis; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Ida; sister, Donna Kail.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 3, 2022 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. Memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Cremation rites entrusted with Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a cause to be determined.
