Raymond F. Callihan, 90, Rockford, died at 11:15 a.m. Friday, February 1, 2008 in River Bluff Nursing Home. Born September 17, 1917 in Rockford, son of Raymond and Elizabeth Millar Callihan. Married Ruth Lucas in Rockford on December 31, 1917. Employed by Roper Stove for 23 years, Barber Colman for 12 years and retired from the Rockford School District after 12 years of employment. WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy. Raymond had a wonderful sense of humor and was always generous to everyone. He was a great, captivating story teller and he loved to watch boxing, play cards and was a voracious reader. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his care giver Annie Lance and the staff at River Bluff Nursing Home. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ruth; daughter, Rae Anne (Bruce) Oberg; sons, Charles Tunkus, Mike (Melinda) Callihan and Bruce Callihan; special daughter-in-law, Barbara Tunkus and his grandchildren, Robin Schroeder, Scott and Chris Tunkus, Ryan Callihan and Jessica Robertson. Also survived by his great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Danielle Robertson, Sara and Daniel Schroeder, Austin Castro, Abigail and Joshua Tunkus and his brother, Jacob (Mabel) Callihan. Predeceased by his parents, brothers, Norman, Donald, Roger and Larry; sisters, Florence Wakenight and Margaret Shaffer and granddaughter, Vicki Lynn Castro. Funeral service at 2p.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2008 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. with Rev. Dr. William Richard Kerr, Sr. officiating.
