Ramie D. Bennett, 82, of Rockford, passed away following a courageous battle with Alzheimers on Friday March 16, 2007, at Springwood Nursing Home. Born June 18, 1924, in Macomb, MO., the son of Ramie L. and Abbie Doyle Bennett.nbsp; He married Jacqueline Boone on January 22, 1946, in Mansfield, MO. Ramie worked as an Operation Manager for Commercial Wire amp; Display Products for 32 years, retiring in 1987. He served in the U.S. Navy WWII Pacific Theater, refloating ships in Pearl Harbor, and also ran a barber shop on post in Oahu. He was a top marksman at Camp Wallace, Texas. Ramie was a member of Third Presbyterian Church where he was a deacon and an usher. He was also a member of E.F.W. Ellis Masonic Lodge No.166 for 50 years and past president of the High Twelve Club. He was also active in the Philathia Club at Third Presbyterian Church. Ramie was a World Champion Trapshooter, was on the All American Team, and trained many young shooters. Survivors include his wife Jackie, daughter Vicki Bennett,of Rockford, dog Shadow, brother Don (Rose) Bennett, of Rockford, sister-in-law Sandra (Josephs widow) Bennett of Caspian , MI. , loving friend Reba Berry. Predeceased by his parents, by two brothers; Leroy (and wife Jerene) and brother Joseph Bennett, many nieces and nephews, his loving friend Jack Berry andnbsp; his dogs; Scarlet, Rusty, grand-dog Sonny, and loving friend Jack Berry. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday March 21, 2007, nbsp;in Third Presbyterian Church 1221 Custer Av. Rockford, with Reverend Dr. Murray Hanson officiating. Visitation will be held from 5PM to 7 PM on Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., with a Masonic Service at 7:00PM, and also from 10-11AM on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Willwood Burial Park. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Willard Moore for his constant support and care, the nursing staff of Springwood Nursing Center, f/k/a Willows on Main, and the many friends who have supported us. nbsp;In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to family for a special church memorial and Alzheimers Association, Rockford Chapter.
