Ralph Leonard Higgs

Ralph Leonard Higgs, 79, of Rockford formerly of Wheeling passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011 in his home.nbsp;nbsp;He was born February 27, 1932 in Washington DC, the son of Leonard and Violet Higgs.nbsp;nbsp;He married Megan Williams in Winnetka, IL on April 4, 1953. He was in the US Army serving during the Korean War.nbsp;nbsp;He worked for Cherry Electric Corporation as a line foreman for many years. He was employed by Underwriters Laboratories Northbrook, in the security department for 10 years, until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of Third Presbyterian Church in Rockford.nbsp;nbsp;He also was an avid wood worker, bowled on a league for many years, loved animals, enjoyed his CB radio, using the handle Sloopy, and had a deep love for cars of all kinds, particularly his red Camaro.

Survivors include his wife, Megan; children, Jeffrey (Pam) Higgs of Colorado, Jan (Mike) Ehas of Buffalo Grove, IL; sister, Phyllis (Edward) Thomas of Connecticut; seven nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, August 5, 2011 at Third Presbyterian Church, 1221 Custer Avenue, Rockford, IL 61103. Luncheon will immediately follow. nbsp;Visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of service, Friday at the church.
