Ralph “Al” Johnson, 71, of Rockford passed away Friday, November 3, 2017, with his family by his side. He was born October 5, 1946 in Ashland, WI, the son of Ralph and Betty (Olson) Johnson. He graduated from Harlem High School in 1964 and later from Rock Valley College. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1965 through 1968, and served two tours in Vietnam with the 964th AEW&C Squadron. For many years he worked in IT at Nylint Corporation and later at HCC in Mendota. Married Kim (Reed) Johnson in 1994. He was a patient man with a witty sense of humor and a mellow demeanor. He was an avid sports fan, especially golf and baseball. He was active in his sons’ sporting events and enjoyed vacationing with his family. Al was a regular blood donor, donating nearly 7 gallons. He loved the outdoors, especially the boundary waters, crossword puzzles, and reading. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, brother and uncle.
He is survived by his wife, Kim; his sons, Chris, Benjamin and Oliver Johnson; his siblings, Clayton Johnson and Debbie DeMars; special cousins, Dennis (Carol) and Roger Johnson; many other cousins, nieces, nephews, mother-in-law, and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, step-father, aunts and uncles.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Burial in Winnebago Cemetery. Express online condolences at www.fitzgeraldfh.com
