PORTUGAL GUANZON ALIMBUYAO, 82, ROCKFORD - Portugal G. Alimbuyao, 82, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2013, at the UW Hospital in Madison, WI. Born on July 8, 1931 in Lingayen, Pangasinan, Philippines, he proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean conflict. He had a Master of Arts in Education and spent most of his years as an elementary school teacher in the Philippines. He was passionate about music, arts and ballroom dancing. He loved to play several musical instruments, especially the piano. He was a devoted member of St. Rita's Catholic Church and the Rockford Filipino Catholic Community. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Encarnacion, and children, Elizabeth Paniergo, Portugal Alimbuyao Jr, both of Manila, Philippines, and Esther Sy (Larry) of Rockford, IL. He had eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Elaine Carrera.
Funeral service will be at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Visitation will be from 3:30 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Philippines at a later date.
