Phyllis H. Gridley

Phyllis Helen Gridley, 92, Rockford, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Alpine Fireside Health Center. Phyllis was born November 21, 1923 in Rockford, the daughter of Fredrick and Helen Dickmann. She was a member of the first graduating class of West High School. Phyllis married James Gridley on September 6, 1950. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Phyllis worked several jobs over the years but her family and home were her priority. She loved gardening, baking, camping, pictures, and spending time with her family and friends. Phyllis and Jim were charter members of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Jim; her sons, Jimmy Gridley, and Bill (Viki) Gridley; her daughter, Jennifer (Stan) Johnson; her grandchildren, Carrie (John) Jurgensmeire, Ted Gridley, Stuart (Beth) Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, and Catherine Johnson; her step-grandchildren, Rick (Kristen) Brown, and Heather Rodriguez; and 11 great grandchildren; her siblings, Doris Clendening and William (Carol) Dickmann; sisters in-law, Lillian Dickmann, Jan Rice, Helen Gridley, Barbara Carlson, and Dorothy Gridley. She is predeceased by her parents, brother, brothers in-law and sisters in-law.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 19, 2016; at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4055 N. Rockton Ave., Rockford, IL; with Pastor Doug Williams officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday February 18, 2016 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. Rockford, IL; from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and will continue on Friday at Church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Aldersgate United Methodist Church appreciated.
