Phyllis Darlene (Spencer) Edwards, 88, of Rockford, passed away on November 9, 2019 with her daughters by her side at St. Anne Center. Born June 10, 1931 in Freeport, IL, she was the daughter of Helen (Alvin) Hammond and Meryl Spencer. She graduated from Mt. Carroll High School in 1949. She married James Edwards June 23, 1949. He predeceased her in 1999.
She was a member of Broadway Covenant Church. Dee enjoyed cooking for family and friends. She loved gardening and sharing with friends and neighbors.
She was a waitress for many years at Bianchi's and The Bistro. She also babysat her only Grandson Josh.
She is survived by her children Jamie (Jim) Deming, Liz “Beth” Edwards and Grandson Joshua Deming. Also predeceased by her daughter Jacci Edwards, siblings Dona Warfield, Gib Spencer and Ted Spencer.
Per Darlene's wishes, she will be cremated and there will be a celebration of her life at a later date.
We would like to thank her many wonderful caregivers at St. Anne Center and Heartland Hospice.
Dee will be remembered for her cooking, kindness and giving spirit.
