Phillip Charles “Phil” Hughes, 73, Melbourne, Florida, formerly of Rockford, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Kindred Hospital in Sycamore surrounded by his family. He was born July 6, 1940, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Phillip Francis and Elizabeth Jane Hughes. Phil was a veteran of the Army. He was employed as a products repairer/mechanical trim person at Chrysler Corporation in Belvidere for 35 years. Phil was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and Blackhawks. His very favorite holiday was St. Patricks’s Day. Phil’s family would love for everyone to wear your “greens” to the memorial gathering in his memory. Survived by his children, Jolene (Jake) Wells, Kellie (Marvin) Levan of Steward, Jon (Dana) Hughes and Kim Hughes; grandchildren, David Low, Mateo, Paige, Brittani, and Ashli Hughes, Zavyn and Zayrian Richards; great-grandchildren, Addison and Ashton Hughes; sister-in-law, Angie Hughes; brothers, David (Cindy) of Newport Coast, California and Robert (Pamela) Hughes of Stanwood, Washington; sister, Cathleen (Nick) Halisky of Apple Valley, California; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his son, Scott and his parents. A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, July 26, 2013, from 4:00pm until 7:00 pm at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S.
