Paul L. Alongi, 90, Rochelle, passed away on August 3, 2013 at Rochelle Community Hospital in Rochelle, IL. Paul was born on December 28, 1922 in Batavia, IL to Saverio and Carmela (Scibetta) Alongi. Paul grew up in Geneva, IL. He attended Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, IL where he received a Bachelors Degree in Education. Paul was a successful businessman in Rochelle for over 24 years, including partner of Flagg Construction/Flagg Realty. He retired in 1985 at the age of 62. Paul attended First Presbyterian Church of Rochelle. Paul married Marian (Parker), January 16, 1975 in Oregon, IL. They were happily married for 38 years. Past President of the NIU Alumni Foundation, and a member of Golden K. Paul enjoyed fishing, golfing, and woodworking, loved playing gin rummy, and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan after living in Green Bay for 6 years. Paul was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Josephine Martello and Carmelo Alongi. Paul is survived by his spouse, Marian of Rochelle, IL; his children, Richard Alongi, Santa Rosa, CA, Michael Alongi, Prophetstown, IL, Tina (James) Canham, Chicago, IL Phil (Mary) Alongi, San Clemente, CA, Melissa (Floyd) Page, Naperville, IL, Claudia Walker, Machesney Park, IL, Barbara Matsumoto, Allen Park, MI, Ivan (Pat) Scott, Green Bay, WI, Maribeth Gillette, Rockford, IL, Irvin (Donna) Scott, Rochelle, IL, Nancy Parli, West Des Moines, IA, Donna (Brian) Mandley, Orillia, Ontario, Keith (Monica) Scott, Rochelle, IL; his 29 grandchildren; his numerous great-grandchildren; and his nieces, Peggy (Dewayne) Williams and Betty (Ron) Kruger. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Rochelle, 1100 Calvin Road, Rochelle, IL 61068 on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 5:30pm. with Rev. Jim Tilley officiating. A meal will follow in the church fellowship hall. The family was assisted by Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd.
