Patrick “Pat” Henry Mulcahey, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
Pat was born in Rockford on January 20, 1933, the son of Henry Edward and Helen Marie (Coffey) Mulcahey. After graduating from high school, Pat served our country in the United States Army. Shortly after, he began working as a machinist with the Rockford Register Star. Pat then went on to earn his master’s degree in education from Rockford College which led him to his career of teaching. His great passion for helping others and teaching those with learning disabilities then began at McNair Middle School in Winnebago until he retired. Pat married Patricia C. Johnson in Rockford on November 28, 1959.
Pat and his family attended Mass at St. Peter’s Cathedral until they later moved and became members of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Pat was strong in his faith and very involved in the church community. He served as a eucharistic minister, lector, and even helped with church groundskeeping and numerous other group organizations. Pat also helped teach the English language to many immigrants who came to settle in Rockford. He enjoyed traveling and most of all, spending time with his family, whom he loved dearly. Surviving relatives include his wife, Patricia Mulcahey; children, Rev. Timothy Mulcahey, Rev. Andrew Mulcahey, Peter (Mary Beth) Mulcahey, David (Rebecca) Mulcahey and Mary (John) McGuigan; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; 3 nieces and 1 nephew. Pat is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Mary Ellen (James) Clark.
Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Monday, January 13th, 2025, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2400 Bell Ave. Rockford, IL 61103. Visitation will be in the parish hall from 9:00 am until time of the Mass. Burial will conclude in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Winnebago, IL.
