Patrick B. Lewis (McNames), 46, was born in Dover, NJ on December 11, 1975, the son of Daniel C. and Linda K. (Brainard) Lewis. Patrick left us on March 29, 2022 in Osaka, Japan where he resided, following a sudden illness.
Patrick graduated from Byron High School, class of 1994 and then from Augustana College, class of 1998. During his time at Augustana, a class trip was offered to students to spend time in Asia while continuing their education, and he immediately fell in love with the culture. In the fall of 1998, Patrick traveled to China to become an English teacher until approximately 2002, when he was employed by Booz Allen and Hamilton in Hong Kong until 2003. Following this, he headed to South Korea for one year and then returned home in 2004. Although Patrick loved his home and family here, he was always restless and as a result, he returned to Asia, this time to Osaka, Japan, and that is where he left us.
He was so fortunate to have met so many international teachers and ex-pats during his time in Asia, and that always added to his happiness there. During his time in Japan, he met his most loved and cherished friend, Minoru Yamaoka, in Osaka, to whom we owe so much more than we will all ever be able to thank or repay him for, because of his love, support and never ending help through this absolutely horrific time. Also, we are so thankful for Patrick’s good friend, Justin Landis, who has also made Patrick an uncle to his beautiful daughter, Erena. Patrick was such a bright light, filled with humor and love, which will remain in our hearts to carry us through the years and tears to come.
Patrick is survived by his parents, Linda and Douglas McNames of Rockford, Illinois and Daniel and Martina Lewis of LaJolla, California; brothers, Daniel McNames of Rockton, Illinois, Mark Lewis of Santee, California, and Brian Lewis of Alhambra, California.
Our hearts are shattered, our spirits broken and we are lost. Please remember to hold your children close and tell them you love them every single day, no matter their age.
