Patricia (Pat) Ellen Morig of Rockford, IL died peacefully on July 12, 2023, after a courageous 13-year battle with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Born in Long Island, NY on January 7th, 1948, the daughter of an airplane mechanic, Pat traveled the world and lived in various places across the country, planting roots in Houston and eventually Barrington, IL.
Pat attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL where she met her lifelong love, Steven Morig of Rockford, Illinois. Pat and Steve were married after a brief 10-month courtship on August 16th, 1969, and would spend the next 54 years of their lives together in Rockford.
Pat and Steve were blessed with four children. Their oldest Lisa was born in 1973, followed by sisters Amy in 1977, and Tricia in 1981. The family was complete when their son Michael was born in 1983.
Pat was a dedicated mother and stepped away from her job in human resources at Woodward Governor to raise her children, only to return for another 21-year stint at Woodward before retiring in 2010. During her time away from work she devoted her life to raising her children, never missing a dance recital, gymnastics meet, baseball game, or any opportunity to be supportive of her kids. She loved planning family vacations, taking excursions to Walt Disney World, Washington DC, and Eagle River, Wisconsin, among others.
In her free time, you could find Pat working in her garden at home, grooming one of her golden retrievers, or spending time chatting with or going on walks with her best friends, Linda Dunphy and Helga Bridge.
Pat was also a devoted member of Holy Family Church in Rockford, often found sitting with Steve in their matching Notre Dame winter jackets during football season.
Pat is survived by her husband Steve, daughters Lisa, Amy Hoeft (JJ), and Tricia; son Michael (Nicole); her two grandchildren Penelope and Fredric. She will be greeted in heaven by her parents Walter and Nora Powell and her younger brother Terrance Powell.
