P. Joseph Seger II, 77 Joe Seger, 77, Rockford, died at 3:45 a.m., Sunday, August 31, 2008 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center after suffering a stroke at home on the morning of August 30th. Joe died with his family at his side. He was born April 1, 1931 in Chicago, IL. son of P. Joseph Seger, I and Lillian Kronenberg Seger. Graduated with a degree in marketing from DePaul University where he was vice president of Alpha Beta Gamma Fraternity. On August 28, 1954 he married the love of his life, Helen Margaret Gleason. Joe was a veteran of the US Marine Corps. Employed in sales for the Glidden Corporation for 40 years. He was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church where he was a Eucharistic Assistant and a member of small group Bible study for 19 years. Joe was active in many community services, including the Board of Crusader Clinic, Special Olympics and Kiwanis Club. He was a faithful blood donor and an Elementary School Reader with the Literacy Council, reading to children at Thompson and Lewis Lemon Elementary Schools. He loved his country, his family, his friends and his life. Joes family would like to thank the staff of OSF St. Anthony Medical Centers Emergency Room and 4th Floor West for the wonderful support they gave during Joes final hours. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Helen,; children, Mark (Julie) Seger, their children, Natalie, Megan and Rachel; Beth (Lyle) Williams and their children, Sarah and Hannah; Marion (Bob) Guirl and their children, Ellen and Michael; Dan (Lisa) Seger and their children, Kimberly and Jack and Patrick Seger and his children, Kennedy and Sean. Also survived by his cousin, Joy Gleason. Predeceased by his daughter, Marie Louise Seger; his son, P. Joseph "Joe" Seger III; his parents; an infant brother; sister-in-law, Marion Gleason and cousin, Patricia Gleason. Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2008 in Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Thomas E. Bales officiating. Private family burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with a Christian Wake Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation also at 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crusader Clinic, 1200 W.
