P. John Seward, M.D., Rockford, IL died Sunday, May 7, 2017. He was born March 18, 1939, in Moline, IL, the son of Phillip and Sulah Seward. John graduated from Augustana College with a Bachelor of Arts degree and completed medical school at the University of Illinois at Chicago and residency training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. John was a family physician dedicated to his patients and committed to serving Rockford and the surrounding community.
He was elected and served as coroner of Winnebago County for 23 years. Throughout his career, John was actively involved in organized medicine at the state and national level, serving as president of the Illinois State Medical Society, chairman of the board of trustees of the American Medical Association (AMA) and executive vice president of the AMA.
Survived by his wife, Sherry “Dusty”; his sons, Bill (Laurie) and Chet (Jennifer) Seward and his daughter, Alaire (Scott) Hilliard; his grandchildren, Jack, William, Catherine and Ella Seward; and his sister, Sulah Anne Robinson.
A private, family memorial service will be conducted.
