Olive A. Purdy, 86, of Rockford passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Wesley Willows Health Center. Born November 7, 1929, in Amboy, the daughter of Nathan and Alice (Bennett) Rockwood. Olive was a faithful member of Berean Baptist Church and was very involved in the AWANA Children’s Ministry. Throughout her life, Olive worked for Englewood Electric, where she met her husband, Barber Coleman, Amerock and as a receptionist for DCFS after she retired. She enjoyed staying active with bike riding, walking and socializing with her many friends. Olive loved to travel and her cats always held a special place in her heart.
Survived by her sister, Beverly (Bill) Manning; sister-in-law, Leandra Rockwood as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. Predeceased by her parents, husband, Willis Purdy and brothers, Theodore (Julie) Rockwood, Herbert (Carol) Rockwood and Kenneth Rockwood.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Berean Baptist Church, 5626 Safford Road. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made for a fund to be established in Olive’s name. Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, assisted the family.
