Olga A. Chew

Olga Annette Chew, 86 ""Cupcake"" Olga A. Chew died on Sunday, November 23, 2008. She was born to Anna Hudec and John Jachec in Chicago on July 28, 1922. She married her first love, Emil Syc. He died at a very young age leaving her to raise two children. She married her true love, Joseph T. Chew in Chicago. He died in September of 1989. Olga lived in Chicago, Mt. Vernon, Indiana and Warrior, Alabama. She and Joe retired to their beloved Las Cruces, New Mexico where she became a State Fair prizewinning and published cook famous for her apple pies and love of green chilies. She enjoyed birds (especially roadrunners), all dogs and cats and all babies. Olga always worked hard. She was employed as a sales clerk, factory worker, nursing assistant, egg sorter, chili peeler, and office cleaner. She made lifelong friends at each job. She was a devoted member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Las Cruces. Olga came to Rockford, IL. to live with her daughter and son-in-law in December of 2007. She went to live at Elders Eden in October. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Engblom (Philip) of Rockford; son, Joe Chew (Shea) of Albuquerque, NM and Duke Syc (Donna) of Waukesha, WI; brother, Raymond (Eleanor grandchildren, Eric Carra, Douglas and Duncan Djang, Jonothon and Jaye Syc; great-grandchildren and her dear nieces. She is predeceased by her parents, husband Emil, husband, Joe, sister Evelyn Kwiat, brother John and ""Beco"" the cat. The family extends special thanks to Elders Eden, which provided loving care in a residential homelike environment and to all the staff who made Olgas final days safe, fun and comfortable. We love you Sherry Gomez! Thank you to Dr. David Hansen and Northern Illinois Hospice. Cremation will be provided by Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Burial at Ft. Bayard National Cemetery, New Mexico and a private memorial service for family and friends will be held at a later date. Memorials may be sent to the family for Olgas favorite charity.
