ODELL POWELL, 78 LOVING HUSBAND, FATHER, GRANDFATHER AND BROTHER   Odell Powell, 78, Rockford, passed away at 11:09 p.m. July 12, 2008 in Swedish American Hospital.  Born September 9, 1929 in Tuckerman, Arkansas, son of John and Minnie (Mask) Powell.  Married Dorothy Dixon on December 18, 1948 in Rockford. Odell owned the Sandy Hollow Grocery Store and later Powells Laundromat and Brooke Road Laundry and Cleaners.  He expanded his business by also opening Tuxedo World.  Odell served on the Board of Education for Morris Kennedy and Nashold Schools and was on the board of directors for Ken-Rock Community Center.  He served as an Elder at 20th Street Church of Christ and is currently an active member of North Park Church of Christ.  He also served on the board of directors for Michigan Christian College and Rockford Christian Camp.   Odell had a love of singing gospel music and  fishing and hunting with friends.  During their marriage, he and Dorothy enjoyed traveling throughout the world.   Survivors include his wife, Dorothy and daughters, Carol Peterson and Colleen (Roger) Crown of Rockford; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Joe (Helen) Powell of West Plains, MO and several nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by his parents, sister, Leveda and brothers, Otis, Curtis, Marvin and Billy Ray.   Funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2008 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Minister Dan Boggs officiating.   Burial in Greenwood Cemetery.  Visitation on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  Memorials may be made to Rockford Christian Camp.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
