LOVING FATHER AND UNCLE
Obadiah Black, 78, of Rockford, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2015. He was born in Jonestown, Mississippi; to parents, Leon Benjamin Baseman and Ellen Black. He lived in Streator, IL for many years before moving to Rockford in 1971. Obadiah worked for many years at Tote Cart in Rockford, as well as Store Clerk at Larry's Liquors. Obadiah was good man who worked hard and took care of his family. Obadiah enjoyed old westerns, and was a diehard Cubs fan and his favorite food was chicken thighs.
Obadiah is survived by his 8 children; Christine Harcharik, Kenny Harcharik, Artie (Jimmy) Jackson, Grace Black, Obadiah (Pops) Black Jr, Ellen (Ted) Davis, Patricia Black, and Judith Black; great grandchildren, Adrian Harris, Remi Harris, Elijha Davis, Mykha Hooker; grandchildren, Adrienne Harris, Charlton Black, Tiffanie Black, Theodore Black, Jordan Black, Tierra Black, Andrea Black, Clifford Tatum; nephew, William Black Jr, Leon Black, sister, Lonnie Mae (Porter) Tynes; and many more nieces and nephews; and special friend of our family, Diane Harmon.
He is predeceased by his parents; brothers, Percy Black, Samuel Black, Pete Black, and B.L Black; sisters, Eddie Bea, Annie Mae, Mae Pearl; and wife, Judith Harcharik Black.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on Monday, December 28, 2015, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, 3910 N Rockton Ave, 61103, with visitation at 10:00am until time of service. Donations may be given to the Black Family. Funeral Arrangements cared for by Fitzgerald Home, Riverside Chapel.
