Norma A. Norwood

Norma Ann Norwood, 88, of Rockford, passed away on June 14, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born on March 30, 1935, in Rockford, the daughter of Antonio and Caterina Marola. She married Donald Norwood on May 23, 1964, in Rockford. She earned her nursing degree from OSF St. Anthony School of Nursing. Norma was an active member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church and was once a member of the Winnebago County Homemakers Association. She volunteered for Klehm Arboretum and Rockford Clean & Beautiful. She was an avid reader, baker, and gardener. Known as “Nurse Norma” she was the caretaker of her kids and grandkids. She was a strong, faithful, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She is survived by those who love her most, husband of 59 years, Don; children, Bryan Norwood, John (Theresa) Norwood, and James (Kimberly) Norwood; grandchildren, Katerina (Steven) Rockwell, Darryl (Erika) Gravagno, and Gage Norwood; and great grandchildren, Savannah Rockwell, Owen and Naomi Gravagno. She is predeceased by her parents; 3 sisters, Bruna Bennett, Mary Corey, and Irma Marola; and great granddaughter, Elyse Gravagno.

A public visitation will be on Friday, June 23, 2023, from 10:00 – 11:00 am at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 3910 N. Rockton Avenue, Rockford 61103. A memorial service will follow the visitation starting at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Please share memories and condolences online.
