Norbert James Schmitt, 82, of Rockton, IL passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022. He was born on July 25, 1939 in White Lake, South Dakota the son of Peter and Marie Schmitt. He married Judith on December 9, 1961 in Vallejo, CA.
Norbert was proud of his service as the lead electrician for the reactor on US Navy Nuclear Submarines.
He was a Rockford Police officer for 7 years. After he worked as an Electrician building nuclear power plants around the country. Norbert was a member at Saint Peter Catholic Church for over 30 years where he attended daily mass as much as possible. He was devoted to his faith, family, and country. His dedication to Judy has been an inspiration to all who knew him.
Norbert will be deeply missed by his children, Michael Schmitt, Jennifer (Dean) Brevoort, Phillip Schmitt; grandchildren, James Brevoort, Scarlett Schmitt, Cecilia Schmitt; brothers, Paul Schmitt and Vincent Schmitt; and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Laura, and brothers Silvester and Alvin.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 3, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary starting at 6:30 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL.
A second visitation will be held Friday, February 4, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Peter Catholic Church, 620 Blackhawk Blvd, South Beloit, IL 61080. A burial will follow at Rockton Cemetery. Memorials may be given for masses in Norbert’s name.
