Norbert A. Kiefer, 80, of Rockford died Saturday, October 20, 2012 at St. Anthony Medical Center. He was born June 9, 1932 in Stevens Point, WI to Peter and Minnie (Stegmeyer) Kiefer. He married his loving wife, Elizabeth Cera, on September 16, 1950 in Stevens Point, WI, settling in Rockford, IL in 1956. She preceded him in death in 2007. Norbert worked over 40 years at Browning Ferris as a mechanic. He enjoyed trips to the casinos and bingo. He had a true passion for scouting, serving as a St. Peters Cathedral Boy Scout leader for over 40 years. He was involved in all aspects of scouting and organizing many campouts and picnics for his Boy Scout Troop. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of Norberts doctors, nurses, staff, OSF Medical Center, and the special friends who helped him in his journey to recovery, health, and well being from injuries sustained in an accident five year ago. Survivors include his children; Marilyn (Ken) Ullrich of Rockford, Donald Kiefer of Rockford, Gary (Julie) Kiefer of Poplar Grove, David (Connie) Kiefer and Keith (Jan) Kiefer both of Rockford; grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister"?inlaw, Ethel Kiefer of Crawfordsville, IN, and special friend and companion, Bobbie Griffin of Rockford. Preceded in death by his wife, Betty, and two sons, Joseph and Kenneth Kiefer. Funeral Mass Saturday, October 27, 2012 at St. Peter Cathedral, 1243 N. Church St. at 10 a.m. Visitation Friday, October 26 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel 1860 S. Mulford Rd. from 68 p.m. with a Christian Wake Service to be recited at 8 p.m. Visitation continues on Saturday at church from 9 a.m. until time of prayer at 9:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials in his name to: The American Cancer Society 4312 East State Street Rockford, IL 61108.
