Nolen "Donnell" Nimmers

Nolen “Donnell” Nimmers, 49, heartbreakingly passed away in his home July 27, 2022 in Rockford, Illinois. He was born April 6, 1973 in Rock Island, Illinois son to Nolan Jones and Lizzie Mae Floyd. Nolen moved to Rockford for career opportunities and after working hard to receive his bachelor’s degree from Judson University he was proud to work in the Rockford area as an intact social worker. Donnell’s biggest priority in life was his family and so he was honored to make a contribution to society by trying to keep other people’s families intact. On May 28, 2022 he married his best friend, Melissa Martin, and was excited for their future as a family. He made a point of becoming Sierra’s father and loving her unconditionally after he and Melissa got together because he was the type of person who considered people that were close to him as his family, cousins as his brothers and sisters, made sure to call his beloved mom every day, and made frequent trips back to Rock Island to visit his family. He always put others before himself because he took the term “provider” and “mentor” seriously. in his free time, Nolen enjoyed finding the best speakers on the market, cheering on the Bears during football season, and was a force to be reckoned with when it came to cooking in his smoker. He will be missed by all that knew him and loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Melissa; beloved daughter Sierra; his parents Nolen and Liz; siblings Earl (Martha) Nimmers Sr., Lola Nimmers, Leroy Nimmers, Sheila (Sylvester) Nimmers, Sharon (Antonio) Sisk, and Marilyn Nimmers; so many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins; his in-laws Greg (Ione) Martin and Kris (Jim) Delmore; a very special mention to Lamonte Nimmers, Laurence Nimmers, Tarasita Nimmers, and Stacy Steede-Enna.

A memorial visitation will take place Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service, 2:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, Illinois 61108. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to be established at a later date.
