Ned Eugene Almond, 64, Rockford, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022, at Javon Bea Hospital. He was born July 6, 1957, in Rockford, the son of Joseph and Mona (Lee) Almond. He was a graduate of Rockford West High School, class of 1975. Ned was a machinist at Ingersoll Machine Tools, Inc. for many years and most recently worked at Dial Machine. He enjoyed spending time with his rescued pal and best friend, Bolt, snowmobiling, gardening, and antiquing with his sister Lois, which they referred to as “junking”. He volunteered at Chicagoland Lab Rescue for many years. Ned’s favorite place to spend time with his family was in Presque Isle.
Survived by his sister, Nancy (Dave) Smith of Rockford and her family, Noelle (Brian) Crain and their children, Paighton (Kelley) Sills, and Noah Crain, Sarah (Mark) Swanson and their children, Xander and Aden, Brianne (Aaron) McKnight and their children, Tori and Ari; his sister, Linda (George) Williams of Rockford and her family, Kelly Olson and her children, Jordan and Kyleigh Thomas; Randy Olson, Steven Olson, Brady (Maggie) Olson, and Taylor Williams; his sister, Lois (Allen) Shores of Rockton, and their family, Riley Shores and Jacob (Claibourne) Nesmith and their son, Avon; many aunts, uncles, and cousins that he loved dearly and of course his best buddy, Bolt.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, February 7, 2022, at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1829 N. Rockton Av. Rockford with Reverend Eric Lemonholm officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. Rockford and from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. on Monday at the church. Burial in Willwood Burial Park.
