Naomi Mae Hand, 84, a resident of Rockford for 67 years, died at 5:50 pm on Sept. 6 at St. Anne Center. Naomi was born in Audobon, Iowa on December 13, 1922, the daughter of Charles and Bonnie (Crees) Stanley. Naomi met LeRoy Hand at Rainbow Gardens and noticed him because he was so good looking and such a sharp dresser. She started working at W.F. and John Barnes and LeRoy was her ""Set-up"" man. Seven months later, April 25, 1943, they were married in Newell, Iowa. Naomi was an all around athlete and was given the nickname ""Toughy"" . She loved bowling, bingo, watching sports and was an avid Cubs, White Sox and Bears fan. Naomi is survived by her son, Bruce (Nancy) Hand; her two daughters, Sharon (Maurice) Gay and Mary Jo ""Jody"" (Rodney) Anderson; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her sister, Theone Frederickson; her four sister-in-laws, Irene Stanley, Lois Stanley, Julia Greenwood, Florence Short and many close nieces and nephews, whom always included her in everything.. Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, LeRoy; her son, Mark; her three brothers, William, Charles and James Stanley; her two sisters, Wyvonne Mickelson and Nadine Enderson and her grandson Eddy Anderson. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 10 at 11 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 4620 S. 20th St., Rockford with Rev. Ralph Kuespert officiating. Burial will be in Willwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday from 10 am until time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
