Nancy-Lu C. Kunnert, 82, of Rockford, was born October 17, 1939, in Evanston to Vivian (English) Clark and Lyman Joseph Clark. Nancy was called home to the Lord on September 22, 2022.
She graduated from Clarke College in 1961 and received a Masters degree in English with a concentration on literature and linguistics from Northern Illinois University in 1986.
She married Richard F. Kunnert on August 18, 1962. She said she was married to this “wonderful husband “ for 60 years. They raised three dear children, Daniel Kunnert, Elizabeth Kunnert Seay and Laura Kunnert (James) Scibona.
Nancy cherished the friendships she made through Holy Family Parish activities, like the Happening, then held offices in the Home and School Association, and the Women’s Guild. She also sang in the choir for 30 years. When the Holy Family Choir sang at St. Peter’s in Rome for the canonization of St. Padre Pio, she was part of it. Nancy lived St. Padre Pio’s message of “Pray, hope, and don’t worry”.
If you met Nancy and she smiled at you, you wouldn’t forget it. Also, you would soon know she loved God and all the people He created. Her friendship networks were long and broad, from grade school, bridge and tennis. She loved stories about people and was a voracious reader, always a book at hand. She loved dumb jokes, both hearing and telling them. Nancy had an infectious laugh, which she attributed to her mostly Irish heritage. She felt the Irish had a corner on humor. Nancy loved the outdoors and almost every vacation was planned with a water element, either to be in it, on it, or beside it. She was not fond of Scuba night dives but did them. She had a great sense of adventure and any opportunity to travel, either domestically or internationally was met with joy.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Richard; her children, Dan, Beth Seay, and Laura (James) Scibona; her brother, Thomas (Sonja) Clark and her nephew, Tec (Heather) Clark.
To both family and friends, Nancy would like to say, “Pray for me as I will for thee that we may merrily meet in Heaven”.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Rd. Rockford with Reverend David E. Beauvais officiating.
