Mildred “Milly” Stegall, 95, of Rockford passed away at Rosewood Care Center on Thursday, June 29, 2017. Milly was born on January 6, 1922 in Rockford, Illinois. Her parents were first generation Americans having immigrated from Sweden. Milly attended Central High School in Rockford, and went to work at the National Lock Company. She married Robert L. Stegall on June 21, 1942. While Bob was serving in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during WWII, Milly continued to work at National Lock. She took time out to raise a family, and then returned to work. Bob and Milly enjoyed working and attending events at the Ellida Lodge, camping and fishing at Wisconsin lakes, and by the shores of the Kishwaukee River. Their camper was their home away from home during the summer. Milly enjoyed Bingo and played frequently. She was known for her quick wit, sense of humor, and sometimes feisty spirit. A lifelong Cubs fan, Milly and Bob never missed a game on television. Milly was predeceased by her husband, Bob; sisters, Verna Kuchinsky, Gladys Harris, Violet Anderson and brothers, Marvin and Raymond Anderson. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret “Peggy” Stegall; son, Larry Stegall (Ann); grandchildren, Meredith Stegall (Cory Gehrke), and Ben Stegall (Joanna Beltran and children Irene and Louie); great-grandson, Jackson Gehrke, and her sister, Lucille Dunphey.
Respecting Milly’s wishes there will be a private service for the family. Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, assisted the family. To express online condolences, please visit: www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
