Mildred A. Sreenan

September 16, 1930 — December 31, 2023

Mildred A. Sreenan (“Millie”) (93) of Rockford, Illinois joined our Lord on the morning of December 31st, 2023. Millie passed in her sleep at her home where family members cared for her. Millie was born September 16th, 1930, in Oregon, Illinois to Lawrence and Mildred Lamm. Millie had two younger sisters, Joanie and Nancy. She graduated from Mt. Morris High School. After graduation she attended St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in Rockford and graduated in 1951.

She met her husband, John P. Sreenan (“Jack”) while going to school at St. Anthony’s. Jack and Millie married on August 23, 1952. Millie continued working at St. Anthony’s as a Nursing supervisor until her first child, Pamela was born in July 1953.

In the late 50’s, as their family grew to 5 children, Jack bought property 350 miles from Rockford on Long Lake in northern Wisconsin that included a “rustic” cottage complete with an outhouse. The drive was 10 hours back then and Millie thought Jack had lost his mind! The cottage eventually became one of Millie’s favorite places. Mille and the family made many memories there, sharing the cottage with family and friends in a tradition that still continues.

Jack and Millie and their growing family moved to their first home in 1961 on City View Drive. Never idle, Millie became the community nurse for the City View neighborhood, volunteered at St. Bernadette Parish as the school nurse and an eucharistic minister. She also helped Jack with the books for his insurance business in the evenings. The love and respect they had for one another is a great example for their children and others.

Millie made her home beautiful by her gardening and as her family grew to eight children, she lovingly filled her home with memories and the smell of cinnamon from her family-favorite apple crisp. She enjoyed trail riding with her children and grandchildren. She continued riding until her mid-80s. Millie had a way with words, and her loved ones will continue to cherish the long notes handwritten in her beautiful cursive that she would send for special occasions, or if she just wanted to let them know they were in her thoughts.

Millie is survived by her children; Pamela Carter, Becky Sreenan, Timothy Sreenan (Ginger), Lawrence Sreenan, Doug Sreenan (Janice), Michael Sreenan (Michelle), Peggy Powell (Arthur), and Jeanne Sreenan. She has 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Millie is predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Mildred Lamm, her husband John Sreenan, Pam’s husband, Tim Carter, and Larry’s life partner, Charlene DeMolli.

A special thank you to Becky Sreenan for all the dedication and loving care she gave Millie for her whole life, and particularly in the last several years.
