Michaeline Straetz, 75, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church after a valiant fight against cancer, peacefully passed to her heavenly home Wednesday morning, February 27th, 2019 in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin. “Miche” was born Michaeline Joan Girard on the Fourth of July, 1943, at Jefferson Barracks Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri, a month after her father, Mike, passed away, and was the youngest of five. Raised in Rockford, Illinois, by their mother Agnes and older siblings, she attended Bishop Muldoon High School and worked at a car hop and later a wire factory. She married John N. Straetz on April 1st, 1967 at St. Bernadette’s Church in Rockford, and moved to Glidden, Wisconsin where they were married almost 52 years.
Michaeline was a loving, caring, introspective and deep-thinking woman with varied interests, from gardening crops and flowers to crafting to discussing current events, politics and religion, and she made the best Christmas wreaths working many years at Winter Woods and delicious cinnamon rolls at home. Michaeline was sentimental and best known for her strong devotion to John and their family.
Michaeline was preceded in death by her parents, her brother James (+Lois) and sisters Patricia (Ronald) and Betty (Wade) and step-daughter Cheryl. She is survived by her husband John and sister Anne (Richard), sons Nicholas (Janis) and Michael (Eileen), and daughters Amy (Dale) and Jennifer (Michael), eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Michaeline was a devout Catholic and prayed fervently for her family as well as for others she recognized were struggling with difficult times.
Mass of the Resurrection Monday afternoon, 2 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Road, Rockford, Illinois with Fr. Kaim officiating. Visitation 12:30-1:45 p.m. Interment after the spring thaw at Most Precious Blood Cemetery in Glidden, Wisconsin.
