Michael “Mike” Z. Dohm, 66, passed away on September 4, 2020. Born on September 3, 1954, in Milwaukee, WI, son to Jerome and Lou Ann (Recker) Dohm. A graduate of Boylan High School, Mike went on to Marquette University and received a Bachelors in Accounting. He then moved to Wichita, Kansas, where he owned The Great Frame Up and started his growing family. Moving back to Rockford, Illinois, in 1986 Mike joined the family business, Rockford Title Company, where he eventually served as President until he retired.
He enjoyed joining his close friends on annual fishing trips to upper Wisconsin and Missouri. They bragged about always catching fish "this big!" However, the fish they caught seemed less important than the time they were spending together.
Mike also treasured riding on the open road on his '98 Harley Davidson Heritage Springer with his late wife, Carla. They traversed thousands of miles over the years, including trips on the Great River Road in Wisconsin and the Tail of the Dragon in the Great Smoky Mountains. He taught all of his children his love of riding.
His other passions included doing home renovations, spending time with his family, vegetable gardening, collecting bald eagle sculptures and artwork, mowing his lawn on his zero-turn mower, and selling on eBay.
His last few months were made more enjoyable by having his 2 grandchildren, aged 7 and 2 years, live with him. They were the light in his life. Through their chaos, he would say, "this is the kind of noise that keeps me going. " He was overjoyed to hear the news of meeting his third grandchild in March 2021. He cherished being a father, but his favorite name was always Papa.
He will be survived by those who loved him most, his children Katie (James Glover) Dohm, Zach (Tracie) Dohm, Jake (Andrea Macias) Dohm, Luke Dohm, Kay-lynn Puskac, and Nicholas Puskac; his grandchildren Noah and Ezra Glover and grandchild on the way; sisters Mary Ann (Gary) Dohm and Amy (Rob) Smith; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Carla Dohm, parents, and sisters Carol Beth Dohm and Susan Watson.
Cremation rites have been accorded by Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will host a celebration of Mike’s life on September 19th at 4 pm at his home in Rockton, IL. The service portion of the afternoon will be available via Zoom for those who cannot attend in person. To send online condolences, please visit www.fitzgeraldfh.com
