Michael "Mike" F. Tongue

Michael “Mike” F. Tongue, 48 of Rockford, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018.

Mike was born June 22, 1970 in Rockford, IL, son of Michael R. Tongue and Linda (Cox) Engelkens. He graduated from East High School, Class of 1989. Mike married Carrie (Skrzypczynski) Tongue on June 4, 1994 in Rockford. He was an active member of St. Bridget Catholic Church as well as a member of the Venetian Club. Mike enjoyed taking trips with the boy scouts and was very involved in his son’s many athletics at St. Bridget’s and Boylan Central Catholic High School. He was a big fan of the Chicago White Sox and Bears. Most of all, Mike loved his family who meant everything to him. He will be dearly missed.

Surviving relatives include his mother, Linda (Dale) Engelkens; loving wife, Carrie Tongue; son, Dominic Michael Tongue; sister, Tiffani (Zach) Blackwell, Tiffani’s mother and step-mother to Mike, Tammi Tongue-Lannoye (Bob Lannoye); step-brothers, Heath (Diane) Engelkens and Dale Engelkens (fiancée Michelle); step-sisters, Dianna Anderson, Sherry Coffman, LeOra Bennett and Dawn (Bill) Schumaker; nephews, Daniel, Mathew, Declan, Rowan and many step-nieces and nephews; aunts, Lisa Gillham, Lori (Gary) O’Callaghan and Pam (Brian) Wescott; uncles, Henry (Mary) Tongue, Jr. and Charles Tongue; father-in-law, Daniel D. Skrzypczynski; mother-in-law, Suzanne K. Ryan; sister-in-law, Lara Skrzypczynski; step-grandmother, Jane Fulton. Predeceased by his father, Michael R. Tongue; brother, Mark A. Tongue; paternal grandparents, Henry U. and Garland M. (Doner) Tongue; maternal grandfather, Morris F. Cox, Jr.; maternal grandmother, Alvera (Salerno) Gillham; uncle, Gary Tongue; brother-in-law, Daniel F. Skrzypczynski.

Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 14, 2018 at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Ave., Loves Park, IL 61111. Visitation will take place Thursday evening, December 13, 2018 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory; Mulford Chapel with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Cremation rites will take place following the services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Family of Michael F. Tongue to be established at a later date.
