Michael E. Covey

Michael E. Covey, 78, of Rockford, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2024. He was born in Macomb, IL, on December 20, 1945, the son of Donald E. and Lela I. (Root) Covey. He married Shayla (Allardyce) Covey on June 15, 1970, in Rockford.

Michael was a very active member of Life Church along with his wife. He worked for the State of Illinois for 30 years. After retirement from the state he worked as a project manager for an inbound call center. He was a model railroader and enjoyed spending time with friends. He and Shayla loved to travel and take road trips on warm summer days, just getting lost in the Camaro convertible. He was a history buff so most travel also included historical sites or railroads no matter where they went. He was a Bears fan he played the piano and played golf back in the day. But most of all he loved his daughter, his grandchildren, his great-granddaughter and Jesus Christ, his Lord.

He is survived by his wife, Shayla; his daughter, Nicole R. (Robert) Swanson; his grandchildren, Ashlie M. Liebelt, Brittany N. (Giuseppe) Barone, and Robert M. Swanson Jr.; his great granddaughter, Amelia Jo Barone; his siblings, Carole (Wes) Osborn, Shelley (Rick) Wolter, and Kevin (Christa) Covey. He is preceded by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Life Church – South Campus.
