Max Gerold Tritt

Max Gerold Tritt, 96, Rockford, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at Northwoods Care Center in Belvidere. He was born August 30, 1926, in Poygan, WI the son of Harry and Helen (Secora) Tritt. He grew up on the family dairy farm that has been in his family since 1852. Max was an Army veteran stationed in Germany. He married Maria Stengl in Grafenwöhr, Germany on September 6, 1947. She passed away on July 24, 2016. He was a machinist at Greenlee Brothers Tool where he retired as a foreman after more than 38 years. Max was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church where he was active in the Senior Citizens group. He enjoyed fishing and traveling, especially his trips to Germany. He was an avid gardener and a member of the Greenlee Retiree’s Club.

Survived by his children, John (Kate) Tritt, Dennis (Darla) Tritt and Bonita Stahl; his grandchildren, Christopher (Pamela) Tritt, Andrew Tritt, Brian (Jenna) Tritt, Sigrid (Janusz) Wis and Kurt (Emalee) Stahl; his great grandchildren, Lukas and Robert Wis, Will and Jack Tritt and Elijah Stahl; his sister-in-law, Fern Tritt; many special nieces and nephews here and in Germany. Predeceased by his parents, his wife, Maria, his 8 brothers and sisters, Elton, Harold, William, Norman, Gordon, Robert, Vivian and Lorraine.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, August 7, 2023, at St. Edwards Catholic Church, 3004 11th St. Rockford. Burial at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the church on Monday. Arrangements by Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory.
