Mason Alexander Balsman

Mason Alexander Balsman, 7, Rockford, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018, in his home surrounded by family after his courageous battle with Neuroblastoma. Mason was born January 4, 2011, to Alexa Leeson and Alex Balsman. Mason was the sweetest boy with the most loving heart. He had a “never give up” attitude and took anything that was thrown his way. His infectious laugh and smile brought joy and happiness to so many. Mason had a witty and sarcastic sense of humor that was beyond his years. He brightened every room he walked in to. His favorite things included Legos, stuffed animals, super heroes, video games, and spending time with his family and friends. Mason loved his school, White Swan Elementary, including his classmates, teachers, and staff. Mason’s life made a lasting impact on many. He will always be remembered. Mason will forever be missed by his parents, Alexa Leeson (Trevor Edwards), and Alex (Becca) Balsman; brothers, Liam and Caden Edwards and his sister, Ella Balsman; his grandparents, Janet Leggero Leeson, Peter Leeson, and Dave and Kelli Balsman; aunts, Whitney Didier, Zoe Leeson; his uncles, Nick and Petey Leeson and Josh Balsman, as well as many great aunts and great uncles, cousins, and friends. Mason’s family would like to thank American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison for their tremendous care and support, with a special thank you to r. Christian Capitini and all the nurses and staff on P4.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, February 16, 2018, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1045 Belvidere Rd, Belvidere, with Reverend Allan Buss officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 7 P.M. on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford. Burial will be in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Make a Wish Illinois, 640 N. La Salle Dr, Ste. 280, Chicago, Il 60654.
