Mary Viginia "Gin" Gorman

Mary Virginia “Gin” Gorman, 91, Rockford, died February 22, 2016, at Presence St. Anne Center. Gin was born July 5, 1924, to John Patrick and Gertrude (Lonergan) Doyle. She attended St. Peter’s grade school and graduated from Muldoon High School and Rosary College, River Forest, Illinois. Gin married Donald E. Gorman on June 18, 1949. Don died April 1, 1984. Gin loved to read, follow politics and current events, and engage in good conversation. She had a sharp mind and a quick wit. Gin made friends wherever she went and was blessed with many wonderful friends including the bridge club ladies who continued to meet for decades after they stopped playing bridge, a book club that shared a lot more than books, and several very special friends who started with Gin at St. Peter’s and remained close throughout the years. The family wishes to thank Pat Burris of the St. Anne’s activities department for all of the joy that her friendship brought to Gin during the last five years.
Gin is survived by her children, Mary P. Gorman, Rockford and Springfield, IL; Martha (Michael) Hogan, St. Louis MO; Kathleen Gorman, Wakefield RI; James (Lynn) Gorman, Madison, WI; grandchildren, Colleen Hogan(Ian Garrison), Patrick (Kelly) Hogan, Mary Kate Hogan and Andrei Hogan, St Louis, MO; Erin Gorman, Providence, RI; Rachael Gorman, Madison, WI; great-grandchildren Declan Garrison and Maeve Garrison, St. Louis Mo; sister Ann Hengel, St. Peters, MO ; sisters-in-law, Joanne Gorman and Marguerite Gorman, both of Rockford; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gin was predeceased by husband, Don; son, John William; and brother, John P. “Jack” Doyle.
Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 5, 2016, in the chapel at Presence St. Anne Center, 4405 Highcrest Rd., Rockford, IL, 61107. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00am until time of Mass at the chapel. Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory assisted the family.
