Mary "Veronica" Stacionis

Mary Veronica Stacionis, 91, of Rockford, affectionately known to all as "Verr," was called home on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, after a prolonged illness. She was born in Rockford on Dec. 20, 1925, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Ingram) Dolan. Veronica married her loving and devoted husband, Theodore “Oscar” Stacionis, on March 4, 1946, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Rockford. They spent 39 wonderful and caring years together before Oscar’s passing on July 30, 1985. She was also preceded in death by her children, Theodore J. "Ted" (Julie) Stacionis, and Sharon (Thomas) Stacionis Leary, and brother Patrick (Joan) Dolan. Veronica was a 1944 graduate of Bishop Muldoon High School in Rockford, and she devoted her life and her love to raising her family and caring for their home. She will be forever remembered for her loving kindness as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Veronica is survived by her children, Alice M. Stacionis and Richard (Kim) Stacionis; grandchildren, Steve Stacionis, Dave (Kelly) Stacionis, Matt (Gloria) Stacionis, Chris Stacionis, Kate Walter Barnard, Heidi Stacionis, Hannah (Kevin) Day, David Rathke, Joshua Day, and Lillyana Day; great-grandchildren, Olivia Stacionis, Luke Stacionis, Mallory Stacionis, Kaylie, Allie, Lauren, and Lindsey Barnard; sister, Kathleen (Tim) Hannon; and many loving nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at St. Rita Catholic Church, 6254 Valley Knoll Dr., Rockford, IL 61109, with visitation from 10 a.m. until time of prayers at 10:45 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
