Rockford-Mary T. Sciortino, 91, died Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at Swedish American Heart Hospital. Born January 18, 1918, in Rockford, daughter of Albert and Maria (Marino) Monestero. Graduate of St. Anthony Elementary in 1932 and Rockford Sr. High School Class of 1936. Married her loving husband Joseph Sciortino on April 20, 1941. Worked for the Rockford School District in the main office for 25 years. Member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Rockford Board of Education Retired Secretaries, Illinois League of Municipal Employees and Young Seniors of St. Anthony Church. Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Joseph; son, Dr. Sam (Sharon) Sciortino; daughter, Rosemary (Jerry) Sciortino-Bloom; grandson, Joseph (Jackie) Sciortino all of Rockford; granddaughter, Jennifer (Chris) Sciortino-Watt of Scotland; great grandchildren, Dylan and Haley Sciortino of Rockford; sister, Helen Alongi of Albuquerque NM and many wonderful nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Preceded in death by her parents and sisters; Josephine Cieskus, Virginia Domico and Mamie Ianni. Funeral Mass Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1010 Ferguson St., with Franciscan Friars officiating. Interment in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation Saturday in church from 9-9:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials to the family for a fund to be established at a later date. Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, assisted the family.
