Mary T. Scalia

Mary T. Scalia, 98, Lake Zurich, formerly of Rockford, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017. Born November 2, 1918, in Ladd, Illinois, the daughter of Gaetano and Margherita (LaRosa) Shifo. She married Gasper C. Scalia in Rockford on November 3, 1941. She was a hairdresser for many years. Mary enjoyed playing poker and taught all of her grandchildren to play at a very young age. Mary also loved to sew for her daughters and granddaughters.
Survived by her son, Charles (Phyllis) Scalia; daughters, Debra (Larry) Forsell and Lisa (Steve) Ryan; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Garry) Raley, Michael (Anna) Scalia, Nicholas (Julie) Forsell, Amanda (William) Pena, David Scalia and Thomas, Mary and John Ryan; great-grandchildren, Anthony and Sophia Forsell, Liam Pena, Elizabetta Scalia and Camilla and Gavin Raley. Predeceased by her husband, Gasper, sisters, Carmella Shifo, Lena Castrogiovanni, Josephine Barber and Geraldine Chrzanowski and brothers, Peter, Frank and Sam Shifo.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 30, 2017 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 North Rockton Avenue.
