Mary Rose Hammer, 95, Rockford, passed away on May 5, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 27, 1917 in Duluth, MN; the daughter of John and Stella Piwon. Mary was married to Wilbur Hammer on September 6, 1947. He preceded her in death in 1996. She was a stay at home wife and mother, raising two sons. Mary was a devout Catholic who attended Mass and prayed the rosary every day. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church since its dedication in the early 1950's and had many friends there.
Mary is survived by her sister, Martha, of Duluth, MN; sons, Jim, of Rockton and Larry, of Machesney Park; 4 grandchildren, Shawn Hammer, of Machesney Park, Greg (Melissa) Hammer, of Lockport, IL, Jennifer (Ryan) Moss, of Rockton and Rebecca (Scott) Wallace, of Roscoe; great-grandchildren, Alex Moss and Megan and Lauren Hammer. Very special thanks to Carolyn Bindenagel for her thoughtful caring and love over the years. Also, a special thanks to Home Bridge Center and Transitions Hospice and all their staff for the wonderful care.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 2505 School St. Entombment in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of Mass at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial s may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
