Mary Louise Peila, 98, of Rockford, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025, at Ascension St. Anne Place.
Mary was born on January 13, 1927, in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Goerge and Opal (Horr) Cullen. She proudly graduated from St. James School and attended Muldoon High School. She married Albert Peila on August 23, 1947, at St. James Catholic Church in Rockford. Mary was a charter member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing and had a passion for reading, a passion that she passed down to her children.
Surviving relatives include her son, John Peila; daughter, Patricia Russo; grandchildren, Alicia Davies, Michelle Orr, Ryan (Christy) Russo, and Janelle (Aaron) Vaiden; great-grandchildren, Addison, Lylla, Charlotte and Joseph; numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Mary is predeceased by her parents; husband, Albert; son, Thomas Peila; grandson, Steven Russo; sister, Catherine Duncan; brothers, George and Benjamin Cullen.
Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at St. Bernadette Church. Visitation will be held in the parish hall from 9:00 a.m. until time of the Mass. Burial will conclude in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
