Mary M. Shumaker

Mary M. Shumaker, 91, of Rockford, passed away October 20, 2017 in her home. Born May 30, 1926 in Chicago, the daughter of Michael & Anna (Hawthorne) Mulligan. Graduated Senn High School, class of 1944. Married Charles J. “Bud” Shumaker in Chicago on May 15, 1948 and moved to the Rockford area. For the first 35 years she was a homemaker raising her children. Later in life she worked as a secretary for Mass Mutual and Williams Manny Insurance Companies, retiring in 2010. Member of Holy Family Church. She was involved in the Rockford Women’s Club and was a member of the St. Anthony Hospital women's auxiliary, which included chairing the Pink Ball. Mary enjoyed playing bridge, especially with her “Tweetie Bird” friends.
Survivors include children and their families, Richard J, Shumaker, Susan(Jeff), Michael, Kirsten, Charles; Gayle (Jack) Krevel, John, Jennifer (Zack); Jim (Carol) Shumaker, Justin, Brendan; great grandchildren Aidan, Allison, Lily and Stella; brother Patrick “Buddy” (Joan) Mulligan; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by Husband, parents and sisters Catherine Mosley and Nancy Mulligan.
Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation 9:30 a.m. until time of mass. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
