Mary Louise Lonergan, 94, of Rockford, died Wednesday, June 29, 2011 with family at her side at St. Annes Nursing Center. She was born November 29, 1916 in Sioux City, IA the daughter of William and Margaret A. (Schroeder) Marriott. A graduate of Briarcliff College in Sioux City and St. Mary School of Nursing, Rochester, MN and went on to marry her loving husband Paul H. Lonergan on May 6, 1946. Mary Lou worked for OSF St. Anthony Medical Center as a nurse and a teacher for 20 years, retiring in 1986. A faithful member of Cathedral of St. Peter, where she was active in St. Annes Society and many additional church activities. She also volunteered at Rockford Literacy Council, PTAs, DCCW, Contact of Rockford, nbsp;St. Annes Nursing Center, where she would take communion and accompany residents to Mass, Catholic Womens League, OSF St. Anthony Medical Center nbsp;Auxiliary Pink Ladies, Christian Family Movement (CFM) and hosted foreign students for the holidays always making them feel welcome and at home . Mary Lous proudest act of giving was in 1966 when she became the first organ donor in Rockford, donating her kidney to her beloved son John Jack. She was a wonderful, kind and caring person who enjoyed life and those around her, she will be missed by all. Survivors include her daughters, Anne (Robert) Hammes of Rockford and Carol (Bruce) Trapp of Bentleyville, OH; sons, Joseph (Kay) of Rockford, Kenneth (Michelle) of Madison, WI and Thomas (Karla) of Naperville; grandchildren, Matthew Hammes, Elizabeth (Scott) Daynbsp;and Michael Hammesnbsp; ;nbsp; David (Christy) Trapp and Brian Trapp, Sara (David) Giordano; Timothy, Anna, Brendan, Patrick and Ainsley Lonergannbsp; andnbsp; Ryan, Casey, Kelly, Kevin and Kenna Lonergan. Also survived by great grandchildren, Jackson, Haley and Charlie Trapp; Keira and Nora Day and Baby Giordano on the way; brother, F. Dale (Lois) Marriott of San Diego, CA., and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul in 1982; her son John Jack in 1967 her beloved grandson, Danny Trapp in May 2011 and brothers, Dr. Kenneth Marriott and Dr. Charles Marriott.
Funeral Mass Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Cathedral of St. Peter, with Rev.Carl Beekman officiating. Interment in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Winnebago, following the luncheon. Visitation Tuesday, July 5 from 5-7 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Riverside chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at church from 9:30 a.m. until time of prayer at 10:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials to OSF St. Anthony College of Nursing, 5658 E.
