On Thursday June 2nd Mary Kate “Katie” (Leonard) Haun, 91, began tending flowers in her Heavenly Father's garden.
Born on February 20th, 1931 in Sweetwater, Tennessee. She married Jessie J. Haun in Rockford, Illinois on February 4th 1950, where they lived and ultimately celebrated 72 years together. Survived by her husband Jessie J. Haun, daughter Judy (William) Von Glockner, and son Gary (Renee) Haun, sister Stella L. Scott, and brother Jackie C .Leonard with whom she maintained close ties. Blessed with three grandchildren, William (Katy) Haun, Karissa (Will) Von Glockner, and Kasandra (Greg Clark) Von Glockner, who further blessed them with three great-grandchildren, Kyla Kathryn Von Glockner, Keira Lynn Von Glockner, and Anastasia Josephine Haun. She doted on these children and they were guaranteed to bring her a smile and a hug.
She was predeceased by her parents, William Earl Leonard and Josephine Willa Mae (Tallent) Leonard, brothers Tommy Leonard, Johnny Franklin Leonard, James M. Leonard, and Casey Leonard, sisters Willa Dean Leonard, Wanda C. Leonard, Eveline Clove Leonard, Beatrice {Leonard} Presley, and Shelby ”Jean” {Leonard} Knox, and nephew Timothy Leonard. Her Tennessee nieces and nephews kept in touch by sending cards, writing letters, or calling, and Katie loved sending cards and writing letters to them in return. These would include Brenda {Leonard} Willett, Danny Leonard, Suzi Leonard, Eddie Knox, Ronnie Knox, Tina {Knox} Musick,, Michelle {Knox} Roller, Albert Presley and Billy Joe Presley. Special mention to niece Becki (Eddie) Wallace who called frequently and entertained with funny cards and daily jokes.
As a member of Prairie Hill Baptist Church Katie became close to the congregation, enjoying services, and functions with friends. She especially enjoyed keeping a tidy house and garden, collecting cards to send to friends and relatives and going to garage sales. She will be missed by many and remembered by all. Services are provided by Fitzgerald Funeral Home 3910 North Rockton, Rockford, Illinois 61103. Visitation begins at 12pm, the funeral immediately following at 1pm will be officiated by Pastor Kirby Miracle of Prairie Hill Baptist Church, with a private graveside service.
