Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Phillip

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Phillip, 98, Rockford, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2020, at Wesley Willows Retirement Home. She was born May 6, 1922, in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of Jay and Constance (Mueller) Crowley. She was a graduate of Rosary College, class of 1944. Betty married Robert “Bob” Phillip on July 5, 1947, in Milwaukee, WI. He passed away on November 7, 2006. Betty was a Social Worker for Catholic Charities in the 1940’s and later taught 2nd grade at St. Bernadette Catholic School for 3 years from 1959 until 1962. She then stayed home to care for their children. She was a charter member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church and was active in the Catholic Women’s League. Survived by her son, William “Bill” (Darlene) Phillip of Machesney Park and her daughter, Barbara “Barb” Phillip of Rockford; her granddaughter Jessica Phillip; her brothers, Jay (Mary Ann) Crowley of Menomonee Falls, WI, Dennis (Marianne) Crowley of Mineral Point, WI, and John (Louise) Crowley of Estero, FL; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, her sisters, Mary Jane (Richard) Frodl and Constance (Frank) LaBarbera.
Per Betty’s wishes, there will be private family burial at Calvary Catholic Cemetery with a funeral Mass to be held at a future date. Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory assisted the family. Share online condolences at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
