Mary E. Frank

Mary Ellen Frank, 81, of Rockford, IL, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2020.

Mary was born in Rochelle, IL on November 19, 1938, daughter of Harold and Garnett (Gibson) Smith. She graduated from Rochelle High School. She married David B. Frank on April 28, 1962. He passed away on October 7, 2014. Mary worked for Sunstrand, drove school buses and retired as a teacher’s aide for Nelson School. She was a former member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Rockford. Mary was proudly active in her card club and enjoyed reading. She also enjoyed traveling around the world. Mary was a devoted grandmother and loved spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed.

Mary is survived by her children, Rebecca (John) Evans and Steven (Kristine) Frank; grandchildren, Tarrah (Kris) Wolf, Hannah (Joel) Lewis, Naomi (Augie) Kim, Hattie Evans, John “Thad” (Rejanee) Evans, Taylor, Jarod and Caelan Frank; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Eleanor Gable; sister-in-law, Arlene Smith and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, husband and siblings, Norma Jean McArthur, Margaret Milligan and Jerry Smith.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL 61108. Adhering to phase 4 guidelines, masks are required and social distancing guidelines must be followed. Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2020 in New Milford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society in Illinois.
